Never try and be clever with someone who's bored.

Nothing much is happening so I thought I'd share this email I received today. It was all about someone hinting that they might turn off a legacy system that we still use because it inadvertently caused a major issue and I suggested we moved the documents to a more modern system. Here is the email trail between me, Jim, Dave and our Boss (all CC'd together). Mr Turner is a resource we can call upon:

I’m in agreement with your thinking here PTV.

Hey Boss, as we employ Mr Turner on an ad-hoc basis – I wonder if it is worth using him as a librarian to set up share point or the likes and get the docs moved across. If we lose that database, the IT department will struggle.

Just a thought.

Kind Regards

Jim

Jim,
I think the loss of the doc’s would be the least of the business’s worries.

As PTV points out, the Plant would lose system functionality, customers would no longer get Advance Shipping Notifications from CCS, and there are other Notes applications that the business use, and I believe the same is true of Recycling.

However, aren’t we jumping at shadows here?  No-one has said they are going to turn off Lotus Notes before we are ready.  Since 95% of the doc’s will be redundant post-new system, it would be a prodigious waste of Mr Turner's time to tie him up for weeks transcribing it.

Regards
Dave

Dave,

Please don't use words of more than two syllables, you know I've going to have to Google "prodigious"

Jim.

Subject: RE: Account lockout issue - P1 post issue report.

Sorry Jim

How’s this (all words of more than two syllables bits removed):

I think the loss of  the doc’s would be the least of the business’s firm’s worries.

As PTV points out, the Plant would lose system functionality stuff, customers bastards would no longer get Advance Shipping Notifications letters from CCS, and there are other Notes applications thingies that the business firm use, and I believe the same is true of Recycling whizzing round.

However But, aren’t we jumping at shadows here?  No-one has said they are going to turn off Lotus Notes before we are ready.  Since 95% of the doc’s will be redundant old post-new-system, it would be a prodigious awful waste of Mr Turner's his time to tie him up for weeks transcribing reading it and writing it.

regards

Dave
