Oooh, look, an Eagle...
The Scottish Holiday.
After the trauma of the Astra-breakdown
episode and the gutless hirecar, we'd recovered sufficiently to begin to enjoy
the rest of our holiday with our friends at the Castle...
Chapter Seven:
One of the things my wife really wanted
to see was a seal, or seals if she was really lucky. So we decided to take a
day out and around the Mull Of Kintyre. We stopped at "St Columba's
Footprints" and carefully studied the jumbled collection of rocks and
seaweed.
"No seals there dear, let's carry
on"
"Oh, alright then, never mind. But
that's where we were told they are most likely to be."
We drove on and took a gated road
signposted "To
The Lighthouse". This took us right up into the hills. As we
were driving slowly along admiring the view, my wife whispered quietly...
"Ooh, look an Eagle!"
"Ooh, look an Eagle!"
"Stop that, that's not funny."
"No, really. Stop the car."
Not a bear, or a salmon |
After it had flown off into the distance and *before* we managed to get a decent close-up of it, we carried on to the end of the road - "No Public Access beyond this point". Good job too as there was a large motorhome blocking the road. I got out to take a look to see if the sign was lying.
"Did you want to drive past and
turn around?" asked some guy with a large-lensed camera.
"Nope, just taking a look to see if
there were any more eagles this way."
"What?! WHAT?! EAGLES!!
Where?"
"Err, just down the road about a
mile by the telegraph poles."
He stuck his head into the camper.
"Dave, Dave you bastard, I told you
to sodding well slow down past them poles!"
The four guys on an expensive
Expedia-Eagle-Hunting-Twitcher holiday began frantically packing their kit back
into the van.
"Time to go?" asked the wife.
"Time to go."
"Can we go to Machrihanish and see
what's there? I fancy a drink and a sandwich."
"Ok dear, wave to the eagles as we
go past."
Eagles come in all shapes
and sizes, but you will recognize them chiefly by their attitudes.

Or is it just that you get outand about and more funny things happen to you? (OK, funnier thread than to experience, maybe...)
